High Ambition Coalition

The High Ambition Coalition is a group inside the UN climate negotiations. It was first seen at COP21 in Paris.[1] This group is "determined to step up ambition by 2020" through enhanced national climate pledges, increased short-term action and long-term low emission development strategies.[2]

As of 2018, in addition to the European Union, countries in the HAC include Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Jamaica, New Zealand, Mexico, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Saint Lucia among others.[3][4]

Criticism

Criticism has focused on the name compared to the pledges made by the countries[5] and on the fact that as of 2019, many of the listed countries are not well on track to achieving the general Paris agreement goals.[6]
