The fund focuses on emerging markets. The main fund's investments are directed to development of mineral deposits (oil and gas, metals, REE), property development and food industry.

In Asia the fund invests in commercial real estate – hotels and business centers. Investments in African continent are directed in mining, food industry and development (basically in the construction of shopping malls). In Russia the Hermes-Sojitz invests in food industry. The European branch of the fund implements investments projects in hotel business. The fund also reviewing possibilities of entering the Russian commercial real estate market (hotels and shopping malls).

The Hermes-Sojitz operates according to principles of green investing that includes creation of suitable social basis for project development, environmental protection and concern for priorities of local populations.

History

2012 was marked by the beginning of the development of mineral deposits. Geological researches of the fund are based on search and exploration of deposits of hydrocarbon and hematite (iron ore) in West Africa.[2][3]

In 2013 Hermes-Sojitz representative office was opened in Russia. During Saint-Petersburg G20 summit were reached the agreements to invest in West Africa.[4]

2014 was marked by the beginning of implementation of a major investment program for the development of fish processing industry in West Africa, including building of the four fish processing facilities. The total amount of investments is €170 million.[5][6][7]

In 2014 the Hermes-Sojitz Fund made investments in modernization of production equipment of the Karelian Industrial Complex which is the only mass producer of surimi in Northwestern Federal District of Russia. As a result, the upgraded production capacities increased to 2-2,5 thousand tons of products a month.[8][9]

In the same year the fund began to develop the new international index of country readiness for the development of industrial projects according to the environmental regulations – Eco Investment Index (ECI).[10]

Also in 2014 the Hermes-Sojitz starts its development projects in West Africa. The investments portfolio is represented by residential and commercial real estate projects in premium and business class sectors. Among prospective projects of the fund – a multi-functional 65-floor skyscraper, a 25-floor residential complex and a 100,000 sq. meters shopping mall. The implementation of these projects is carried out according to the most recent achievements in energy saving construction, design and engineering.[11][12]

In 2014 the Hermes-Sojitz has increased its development project portfolio by entering the Chinese real estate market. $120 million was invested in the construction of hotel with 150 rooms. The total of investment in hotel-related projects is $1.5 billion.[13]

In 2014 due to the decision of Blackstone Group investment company, the EBRD and IFC to suspend work in Russia the Hermes-Sojitz fund considers a possibility of financing of these projects in its territory.[14]

In 2015 the fund's board of directors assigns to Italian branch the status of the central in Europe.[15]

In 2015 – opening of the first industrial complex, specializing in the production of surimi in West Africa.

In 2015 the fund invests in Russian fish processing entity of Karelian Industrial Complex.

In 2015 the fund invests €55 million in development of hotel complex with yacht-club in the south of Karelia (Russian Federation).

In 2016 the fund decided to launch a boutique hotel chain in the north of Italy. The new chain will include 17 exclusive hotels with 25–50 rooms. The chain launching is planned by the end of 2017.[16][17][18]

In the second quarter of 2016 the International Investment Fund Hermes-Sojitz made a deal to sell 60.3% stakes of Sinopac Company. Sinopac is engaged in development and production of rare earth elements (REE) in Africa. The buyer of assets was not disclosed. The price of stakes pack amounted to $340 million.[19]
