History

Created in 2006,[2] Helion was founded by Rahul Chandra, Ashish Gupta, Kanwaljit Singh[2] and Sanjeev Aggarwal.[3] The firm focuses on technology startups in the early to middle stages.[3] According to The Economic Times, in 2012 Helion was India's "largest domestic venture capital firm".[4]

Funds

The company has created four funds: a $140 million fund in 2006,[5] a $210 million fund in 2008,[5] a $255 million fund in 2012,[1] and a $300 million fund in 2015.[6] Although Helion is focused primarily on technology companies, it has also funded companies in the environmental technology, education, financial services, and health care sectors.[5]

Exits

By January 2017, Helion had exited the following companies.[5] In 2010, MakeMyTrip had an initial public offering.[5] In 2012 Letsbuy and Exclusively.in were acquired by Flipkart. In 2013, Naspers bought Redbus.in, and Moody's Investors Service bought Amba Research.[5] In 2016 Equitas listed on the Bombay stock exchange, Azure Power listed on the NYSE, Zettata was acquired by Target Corporation, and Pipemonk was acquired by Fresh Works. In 2019 PineLabs bought Qwikcilver, Zefo was acquired by Quikr, and Spandana went public.
