Heegan FC (formerly Somali Police FC until 2013)[1] is a Somali football club based in Horseed, a district of Merca (Somalia).

History

It was founded in the Port of Merca in 1950 by descendants of Italian colonists in Merca[2] during the ONU mandate.

They won the Somalia League in its inaugural year in 1967,[3] when was initially named "Somali Police FC" (from the SC Polizia that won the 1954 championship[4]) and again in 2014/15.

The team is based in the rebuilt Banadir Stadium. In the 2018 Somalian championship the team was third. In August 2019 the Horseed FC has participated in the "Somalia championship" defeating 2-1 the Jazeera team.[5]

In the 2020 Somalia championship the team was fifth when the Coronavirus crisis blocked all the matches on march 19[6]:
