Health Care Compliance Association

Established in 1996, Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA)® is a member-based association for healthcare compliance professionals. Serving more than 12,700+ members across the country, it is dedicated to enabling the lasting success and integrity of those working in, working with or supporting healthcare organizations. Incorporated in 2011, Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics & Health Care Compliance Association (SCCE & HCCA) is a 501(c)(6) non- profit organization.

Its members include compliance officers and staff working in hospitals, research facilities, clinics, and technology services providers, as well as anyone providing services or goods to these organizations or the compliance community. Each member has direct access to their CEO, Gerry Zack.

History

HCCA started as a meeting at the 1996 annual Medical Group Management Association. Attendees included Roy Snell, founder and first president of HCCA from 1996-1998 and appointed CEO from 2001-2018, Brent Saunders, and Edward G. Longazel. At HCCA’s first annual meeting, many members asked for more local networking opportunities. It was decided at the meeting that HCCA would establish ten HCCA regions, based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regions. From two members in Minneapolis in 1996, it grew to 2000 members three years later, and today services more than 12,700+ compliance professionals.

Education, publications and events

HCCA offers a robust calendar of 50+ events each year, including weekly web conferences, one-day regional conferences, to three-and-a-half day national conferences, and classroom-style Academies covering the basics of healthcare compliance. It also offers a range of products such as books, magazines, and newsletters. Its resources are available in print through its website, and also online through COSMOS. COSMOS is an online platform, providing practical content with powerful search and links to relevant resources.

Certification

The Compliance Certification Board (CCB)® was established in 1999. CCB’s mission is to develop criteria for the determination of competence in the practice of compliance at a variety of levels, and to recognize individuals meeting these criteria. CCB certifies over 12,500 compliance professionals through its seven compliance certification programs: Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)®, Certified in Healthcare Compliance– Fellow (CHC-F)®, Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC®), Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC)®, Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)®, Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional–Fellow (CCEP-F)®, Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional–International (CCEP-I)®.
