Harry M. Rubin

Rubin was born in Kings Point, NY. He graduated from Stanford University in 1974 with a double degree in Psychology and French Studies. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1976.

He currently serves as President of the Board and Head Officer at 784 Park Avenue Realty, Inc., his Park Avenue co-operative residence located on 74th Street between Madison and Park Avenues where he owns a duplex apartment.[4][5] He is also the Chairman of Henmead Enterprises, Inc. and a director of Synthesis Energy Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMX)[6][7]

In 1991, Rubin and his wife, a former marketing director at Columbia Pictures, co-created the board game, "Let's Buy Hollywood".[8] Published by Rubin's firm, Henmead Enterprises, the game is similar in structure to Monopoly, players had to build a vertically integrated entertainment empire, incorporating all aspects of the industry, from talent acquisition, to film production and ultimately, distribution.

In 1984, Rubin became a founding partner of Boston Beer Company, known by its brand name of Samuel Adams,[1][2][3] along with Lorenzo Lamadrid and Jim Koch.

Rubin began his career in the media industry with RCA, which owned television network, NBC. At RCA, Rubin served as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Video Coordination.[9][10] In 1996, he became Head of Business Affairs, Cable TV, and Home Video for General Electric following GE's acquisition of NBC.

In 1994, Rubin became Chief Financial Officer of GT Interactive and later Executive Vice President and General Manager of International Division and Business Affairs for the company.[11] In 1998, he became President of GT Interactive's International Division.

In 1993, GT Interactive published Doom, the bestselling video game of the 1990s. The firm's revenue increased 880% and reached $101 million in its second year of existence, with profits reaching $18 million.[12] GT Interactive's partnership with id Software scored another hit with Doom II: Hell on Earth, which was released in October and sold over 2 million copies. In December of 1995, GT Interactive Software debuted on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the stock symbol GTIS.[13] Raising $140 million with its initial public offering, it was one of the biggest IPOs of the year, second only to Netscape's.[14] In 1995, GT Interactive offered 10 million shares to the public at $14 each.[14] In 1999, the firm replaced its CEO, Ron Chaimowitz, as a result of financial setbacks, and was purchased by Infogrames.[12] In February, in light of the bad results, CEO Ron Chaimowitz was replaced.[15][16] During his time at Infogrames, Rubin was appointed Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Atari, Inc. released the rights to develop a live action film version of Alone in the Dark, one of Atari's most acclaimed video game series. The original Alone in the Dark video game received critical acclaim upon its release and is considered a breakthrough and influential title, as it was the first 3D survival horror game.[17][18] In 2009, Empire included Alone in the Dark on their list of 100 greatest video games of all time. Further the Alone in the Dark series gave birth to several critically and financial successful titles including Alone in the Dark, Jack in the Dark, Alone in the Dark 2, Alone in the Dark 3, Alone in the Dark 4, Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare. Atari CEO, Bruno Bonnell, and Rubin, then Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, served as co-executive producers for the movie[19]. The cast included major film actors such as Golden Globe-winner Christian Slater who starred in the lead role as Edward Carnby, and Tara Reid, star of The Big Lebowski. The film was directed by three-time Razzies nominee and "Worst Career Achievement" winner, Uwe Boll, who also served as the film's executive producer. The film received a widely negative critical and box office response.[20] Boll and Reid were nominated for Worst Director and Worst Actress in a Lead Role at the Golden Raspberry Awards.[21]

In 2006, Rubin was named director of Synthesis Energy Systems, Inc. ("SES") (NASDAQ: SYMX)[22] Currently, he is chairman of SES's Nominating and Governance Committee, as well as, a member of the Audit and Compensation committees. Lorenzo Lamadrid serves as chairman of the company. SES is a microcap alternative energy company that provides technology, equipment and engineering services for the conversion of low rank, low cost coal and biomass feedstocks into energy and chemical products through their proprietary U-GAS fluidized bed gasification technology.[23] On January 5, SES announced that it had regained compliance with NASDAQ's $1.00 minimum bid rules.[24] These rules establish minimum standards for securities to trade on the NASDAQ.
