Harry Charsley

Henry William James Charsley (born 1 November 1996) better known as Harry Charsley is an English-born Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Mansfield Town.

Club career

Everton

Charsley joined Everton at the age of 9.[3] In May 2014, he helped the side win the Under-18 Premier League title in the 2013–14 season.[4] After progressing through the ranks of the Academy, he signed his first professional contract with the club, signing a two-year contract on 18 July 2014.[5]

Charsley continued to progress at Everton's U18 side, where he won the Under-18s Player of the Season, as well as, winning the club's Goal of the Season.[6] In July 2016, Charsley signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him until 2017.[7] After scored three times in the first fives matches for the U23 side in the 2016–17 season,[8] He then scored his first goal in the EFL Trophy against Blackpool, in a 5–4 defeat in the penalty shoot-out after the game was finished with a 1–1 draw on 8 November 2016.[9] Then, in April 2017, Charsley signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him until 2019.[10]

On 6 December 2017, Charsley was named in Everton's first team squad for the Europa League match away to Apollon Limassol.[11] A day later, he made his first-team debut, starting in a 3–0 win.[12] Local newspaper Daily Post said about Charsley's performance, describing him as "grew in confidence at left-back." [13]

In June 2019, it was announced that Charsley would be released by Everton when his contract expired at the end of June [14] Despite this, Charsley was given a new short-term contract until January 2020.[15]

Loan at Bolton Wanderers

On 12 January 2018, he moved to Football League Championship side Bolton Wanderers on loan until the end of the 2017–18 season, joining Everton compatriot Antonee Robinson at the Macron Stadium.[16]

Charsley made his Bolton Wanderers debut, where he started the match before coming off as a substitute in the second-half after playing 55 minutes, in a 2–0 loss against Brentford on 13 January 2018.[17] This was the only game he played before returning to Everton.

Mansfield Town

After his short term Everton contract expired, Charlsey joined League Two side Mansfield Town on 17 January 2020 on a deal until the end of the season.[18]

International career

Charsley has represented the Republic of Ireland at various age levels, from under-17 level to under-21 level.[19]

After representing Republic of Ireland U17 in 2013, Charsley was called up by Republic of Ireland U19 for the first time in September 2014.[20] He then made his Republic of Ireland U19 debut on 9 September 2014, in a 1–0 win over Netherlands U19.[21] Charsley went on to make nine appearances for the U19 side.

After previously being called up by Republic of Ireland U21 in June 2015, Charsley was called up for the second time in late-August.[22] It wasn't until on 2 September 2016 when he scored his first Republic of Ireland U21 goal, in a 2–1 win over Slovenia U21.[23] A year later, on 9 October 2017, he scored his second Republic of Ireland U21 goal, in a 4–0 win over Israel U21.[24]
