Harry C. Jackson

Harry Cook Jackson (born July 23, 1915 in Columbus, Georgia;[1] died February 12, 2000)[2] was an American politician [3] ( Democratic Party).[3]

Life

Jackson graduated from Auburn University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering . Jackson was now working as an engineer. Furthermore, he received in 1952 his admission as a lawyer.[1]

From 1961 he was a member of the Senate of Georgia for 12 years.[3] During this time he held there for two terms the post of president pro tempore.[3] In 1974, he ran unsuccessfully for a nomination for the Democratic candidate in the upcoming election of the Governor of Georgia.[2] In August 1978 he took again a democratic primary part, this time to prepare Kandidatens in the upcoming mayoral election in Columbus, Georgia and repressed while his party colleague Jack P. Mickle , who had sought the nomination for a second four-year term.[4] After Jackson was able to win the next mayoral election also, he held the office from 1979 to 1982.[5] Jackson was from 1985 a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Ports Authority , and was elected in September 1994 as its Chairman.[6]
