He is a past-president (1991–1992) of the Special Libraries Association (SLA).[3] He was awarded SLA’s Professional Award in 1989 in recognition of his work in one-person librarianship. He was named to SLA's Hall of Fame in 2010 for his identification of knowledge services as "the practical side of KM." In September, 2015 he was made a Life Member of SLA.

In June 2019 Guy St. Clair was announced as the recipient of the Special Libraries Association’s 2019 John Cotton Dana Award. Named for SLA’s founder and first president, the award is granted to an information professional to recognize a lifetime of achievement as well as exceptional service to SLA, to the library and information profession, and to knowledge management and knowledge services.

Guy St. Clair is the Series Editor for Knowledge Services, the new series from Verlag Walter de Gruyter, the scholarly publishing house specializing in academic literature. He also teaches in the Postbaccalaureate Studies Program at the School of Professional Studies, Columbia University] in the City of New York.[4]

His book SLA at 100: From 'Putting Knowledge to Work' to Building the Knowledge Culture" traces the history of the Special Libraries Association. In the book's Epilogue, St. Clair defines the knowledge culture and, in describing knowledge services, offers his understanding of the role of knowledge services in organizational management, whether in for-profit, non-profit, or not-for-profit organizations.[5]
