Gustaf Wilhelm Finnberg (21 November 1784 – 28 June 1833) was a Finnish painter.

Great Fire of Turku by Gustaf Wilhelm Finnberg, 1827

Finnberg was born in Parainen (Pargas) to a poor family. At the age of 17 he studied painting, and in 1805 he took and passed the Handicraft Painters Guild apprentice examination in Turku.[1] He spent the years 1806 to 1820 in Stockholm, where he studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, although he never graduated. While his primary interest was historical paintings, he made his living through painting portraits. He also executed some miniatures and landscape works.[1] The painter Robert Wilhelm Ekman studied under Finnberg in early 1824.

Many of his works were destroyed by the Great Fire of Turku, which affected Finnberg's life and career. He left Turku and went to Stockholm afterwards in 1824. Other than some works inspired by the fire, Finnberg struggled to make a living as an artist until his death on 28 June 1833.
