Gupteshwar Pandey

Gupteshwar Pandey is an IPS officer of 1987,. Currently he is serving as Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar.[1][2]


Early Life and Education

Gupteshwar Pandey was born in the year 1961 in Geruabandh village of Buxer district. His village was away from basic facilities like electricity, health, education and road. He had to walk far for his primary education. He completed his school in an environment where there were no benches or any good facility. After completing his intermediate He studied at Patna University. Due to his hard work and dedication, he has cleared UPSC without any coaching or training. He qualified for the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in year 1986. He appeared for UPSC again and cracked Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1987. His determination and self-study made him an IPS officer of 1987 batch. He was allotted Bihar Cadre.

Career as Superintendent of Police (SP)

He has served as SP in few major districts of Bihar.

Face of Alcohol Ban Campaign

In November 2015, Bihar Govt has completely banned alcohol. Since then Gupteswar Pandey has taken this as a mission. He has traveled all 38 districts of Bihar and campaigned for Alcohol Ban. His campaign was not only successful but it converted as a movement. He got support from people of all societies and all walks of life. Women have supported this campaign to a major extent. He became the positive face of police after this campaign. He was recognized and appreciated at many forums for this. In 2019, Aniket Kumar Jha president of Jan Chetna Foundation ran a Nasha Mukt Bihar Campaign in Begusarai where Gupteswar Pandey showed his full support.
