Green Front – Independent Ecologists

The Green Front – Independent Ecologists (Italian: Fronte Verde – Ecologisti Indipendenti, FVEI), better known as Green Front (Italian: Fronte Verde), is a small green political party in Italy, led by Vincenzo Galizia, former leader of the Tricolour Flame's youth movement (National Youth).[1]

The symbol of the party is a stylized archer.[2]

The Green Front does not declare itself to be of right-wing nor left-wing, it is inspired by a spiritual conception of life he declares himself for direct democracy, anti-nuclear, anti-capitalist, anti-globalization and is in favor of the Self-determination of the peoples.[3]

On the European field, the Green Front, for the 2007 French Presidential elections, claims to support the rural and antiglobalist candidate José Bové.[4]

In the 2008 general election it supported the "For the Common Good" list (Italian: Per il Bene Comune), led by Stefano Montanari and former senator Fernando Rossi (0.3% of the vote).[5]

On the occasion of the 2009 European election, the party stipulated an agreement with the Liberal Democrats of Daniela Melchiorre, but the list obtained a mere 0.2% of the vote.[6]

On 1 March 2009, during the National Assembly in Rome, the Green Front changed its name into Green Front – Independent Ecologists (Fronte Verde – Ecologisti Indipendenti, FVEI). During the works of the National Assembly, Vincenzo Galizia was re-elected unanimously as National President.[7]

In 2011 it became an "Ecologist Confederation" composed of various movements, committees and associations.[8][9]

On the occasion of the 2014 European election, the Green Front supported the candidates of the Northern League,[10] for the Europe of peoples (Kristalia Rachele Papaevangeliu in the Central Italy constituency) [11] obtained 6.16% of the vote.[12]

In 2015, on the occasion of the election of the President of the Italian Republic in Parliament, the Green Front supported the mountaineer Reinhold Messner.[13][14][15]

In the 2019 European election it supported two candidates of the Green Europe list (Giuliana Farinaro and Elvira Maria Vernengo). After the newspaper Il Foglio reported the support for Green Europe from the Green Front, Giuseppe Civati withdrew (informally) his candidacy and suspended his election campaign because FV is led by a former far-right politician.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]
