The GWBA was founded in 2016 by owner Sonya Nichols in Chicago, Illinois. As of 2019, it featured four teams, but plans for expansion prior to the 2020 season.[1] The Surge plays home games at the Washington University in St. Louis Field House. The GLO plays home games at the Menominee Nation Arena, home of the NBA G League's Wisconsin Herd.[2] The Icons hosts home games at Ensworth High School, and the Monarchs do so at Dort Federal Credit Event Center.
