On 26 June 2020, a stabbing attack took place in the Park Inn Hotel, Glasgow. Six people, including a police officer, were injured. The suspect was shot dead by police at the scene.

Incident

On 26 June 2020, six people were stabbed in the Park Inn Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland. BBC News initially reported that "three people are believed to have been stabbed to death in a stairwell to a hotel in Glasgow city centre", but later it was confirmed that only the attacker died and six people, including a police officer, were injured.[1] The attacker was shot dead by a police officer.[2] The injured police officer was stabbed and is reported to be in a "critical but stable condition".[1] Police Scotland later announced it was not being treated as a terrorist incident.[3]

Location

The Park Inn Hotel in Glasgow is operated by Radisson Hotels, an American international hotel chain.[4] At the time of the attack, the hotel had been closed to booked guests due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and had instead been reported to be hosting asylum seekers.[5][6]

Reactions

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wrote on Twitter that her "thoughts are with everyone involved". She requested that the public stay away from the area and that they avoid sharing unconfirmed information.[7]
