Giulio Gallera

Giulio Gallera (born April 28, 1969 in Milan) is an Italian politician and the acting Health and Welfare Minister in the Lombardy region of Italy.

Biography

Born in Milan, he graduated in law at the University of Milan in 1995, passing the bar exam in 1998.

He started his political career in the youth group of the Italian Liberal Party, and in 1994 he took part in the foundation of Forza Italia. After serving in the Milan City Council, he was elected to the Lombard Regional Council in 2012. He has been appointed Regional Minister of Health and Welfare since 2016, firstly by Governor Roberto Maroni and then by Attilio Fontana in 2018.

When commenting the Covid-19 situation in Lombardy on 23 May 2020, he caused significant outrage on social media through asserting that a basic reproduction number of 0.51 implies that, in order for a susceptible person to get infected, they would need to come into contact with two infectious people simultaneously.[1]
