Gihara

The Gihara are a group of families from the descendants of Rajputra caste found in various states of India and overseas. They are considered to be among the migrating group of warriors from Udaipur (Rajasthan) [1] or partly settled communities. They are now included among the notified families in Uttar Pradesh, Madhaya Pradesh, New Delhi (City), Mumbai (City), Singapore (as we known of) and various cities in India.[2]

History and origin

The Gihara Samaj are immigrants from Udaipur (Rajasthan) and are the bloodline of Sisodia Rajputhana clan. Gihara actually stands for 'Ghar-hara' and it is formed as the outnumbered Rajputras whom lost the battle (of ancestry-territorial ownership) with the Mughals. Gihara families are always fond in speaking mostly Gihari, Hindi and English.

Occupation And Demographics

The Gihara are strictly endogamous and are divided into exogamous clans. These are the Sodha, Sankat, Maish, Otwal, Gohar, Sore and Marriayyan, Bhotiyarakhn

Many Gihara are still involved in their traditional occupation of garment industry. Many individuals are still engaged in their traditional occupations such as kuchbandiya and sirkibandiya. Many other individuals engaged themselves in cottage industries.

The community strictly believes in the worship Of Mata Maharani They worship the goddess Durga, the goddess Balasundri, and the goddess Jwala ji
