George Butterworth (tennis)
George Butterworth (1858–1941) was a British tennis player in the early years of Wimbledon. Butterworth lost in the Wimbledon semis in 1880 to Herbert Lawford.[2] In 1882 Butterworth lost in the second round to Richard Richardson. Butterworth was also a fine rugby player. He played for Clifton Rugby Football Club. Butterworth was a lawyer. He later emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand. His son Hugh died in World war 1.[3] George Montague Butterworth's nephew was the composer George Butterworth.
