Background

After releasing his debut album, Songs from a Broken Chair, in 2016,[1] Reid starred in the Canadian sitcom Schitt's Creek, during which he performed a rendition of the song "The Best".[2] He stated that the musical performance inspired him to continue pursuing a music career.[3] The performance itself was deemed "one of the most romantic, adorable moments on TV [in 2018]" by The New York Times.[4]

Release and promotion

Reid premiered the lead single from the album, "Honesty", on February 6, 2020.[5] A second single, "Jacob's Dream", was released the following month.[6] The album's third and fourth singles, titled "Hold On" and "Got You", were released in April and May, respectively.[3][7] Reid embarked on a tour across North America to support the album, however, a number of the original dates had to be indefinitely postponed midway through the tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[8]

Critical reception

Exclaim!'s Laura Stanley praised the album as a "comforting embrace".[9]
