Gangadhar National Award

This award is given in the field of Literature (poetry) by Sambalpur University in the honour of Swabhaba kabi Gangadhar Meher. First award was given to Ali Sardar Jafri in the year 1991. Till now 28 poets have been awarded on various Indian Languages. Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari will be the next Gangadhar national awadee to be awarded on 53rd foundation day of Sambalpur University on first week of January, 2020.[1]

History

The award was first given in 1991 but the procedure of giving award was started in 1989.

Procedure

There is a delay of 1 year due to a long process of choosing an awadee, if the awadee won the prize for the year 2019 then he will get his award in the Year 2021, and the award of 2017 will be given in the year 2019. It is awarded on the celebration day of Sambalpur University foundation day, Foundation day is celebrated every year in January.

Cash prize of Rs 50,000, angavastra, citation, a memento and a copy of Gangadhar Meher: Selected Works (An anthology of Gangadhar Meher's Poetry in English translation) is given to receipt of Gangadhar National Award.[2][3]
