History

GTel Zimbabwe was founded in October 2009 as a franchise of G-Tide Mobile International then re-branded to GTel in July 2011. GTel Zimbabwe was founded by Mr Chamunorwa Shumba and Cheryl Shumba. GTel is headquartered in Harare and Mr Shumba is the founding Chief Executive Officer[8].

The company releases at least three new phone models a year[9] and has now gained a significant market share in Zimbabwe and has expanded its operations to East Africa[10][11].

Market share

In 2015, GTel recorded 1 million mobile phone users in Zimbabwe[5] with civil servants constituting a majority of these. GTel managed to get a significant market share through flexible payment schemes, cash payment, Bank debit order facility and the payroll deduction for corporates[12][13].
