G. K. Reddy (producer)

G. K. Reddy is an Indian businessman, film producer and actor. He has worked in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu-language films.

Career

The son of a farmer, Guruappa Krishna Reddy began his career in 1960 with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bangalore, before entering the civilian defense service as an engineer in a heavy vehicles factory in Chennai. In the 1980s, he successfully established the business of garment exports in Chennai and continued the business until 1994. In 1995, he set up GK Minerals, an exporter of cobblestones to the United States.[1][2][3]

Reddy also started his film production studio in 1985 under the name Sridevi Kalachitra which later renamed into GK Film Corporation. His films include Idhu Unga Kudumbam (1989) and Prema Chadaragam (2004).[4] He made his acting debut with Raakshashi (2015), the Kannada remake of Pisaasu (2014) where he played the ghost's father originally played by Radha Ravi in the original.[4] He went on to star in A. Venkatesh's Nethraa (2019). Reddy had previously collaborated with Venkatesh for Mahaprabhu (1996), which was co-produced by Reddy.[5] He played Radhika Kumaraswamy's father in Damayanthi.[6]

Personal life

His sons, Vishal and Vikram Krishna, daughter-in-law Sriya Reddy, and wife Janaki Devi all work in the film industry.[7][3][8][9][10]
