Fred Emery (journalist)
Fred Emery (born 19 October 1933) is a British television investigative journalist, often for the BBC.
Early life
Fred Emery was born in south-west Essex. He attended Bancroft's School in north-east London from 1944-51.[1] He was head boy in 1951.
Career
Newspapers
Emery covered a lot of the Vietnam War as a newspaper journalist. He was a foreign correspondent all over the world, often in known troublespots.
Panorama
Emery was a presenter for Panorama throughout the 1980s.[2] He interviewed Margaret Thatcher[3] on 8 June 1983, on the eve of the 1983 general election. Much of British politics in the 1980s, often on Panorama, involved Thatcher. Panorama was taken to court for slander in October 1986 for having a perceived vendetta against some politicians in the Conservative Party, notably for aligning these politicians with supposed allegiances for the National Front or other forms of implied racist leanings. The BBC did not contest the case and eventually settled out of court.
