Frank Isola (sportswriter)

Frank Isola is an American sportswriter, who once covered the New York Knicks and the National Basketball Association for the New York Daily News from 1996 before being laid off in 2018.[1][2] He appears on broadcasts of Brooklyn Nets basketball games on the YES Network [3] and occasionally on the ESPN show's Around the Horn[4] and Pardon the Interruption and SportsNet New York (SNY). He is one of the hosts of "The Starting Lineup" on SiriusXM NBA Radio. On October 1, 2018, Isola announced that he was joining The Athletic as a senior writer[5]. Isola received an APSE sports writing award in 1998, and, before he was laid off, was voted New York Sportswriter of the Year in 2015. He also received a New York Emmy Award in 2009-10.[6]

Isola is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was a walk-on member of the men's soccer team.[7] He is married to his wife Tonja and has two children with her. A son Liam, who attends Northwestern, and a daughter, Gabrielle who plays for the Villanova Wildcats' women's soccer team.[8]
