The station opened in 1848 by the Scottish Midland Junction Railway. It was the northern terminus of the line, situated north of Kirremuir Junction. There was a goods yard to the north which was extant when the first station opened. The station closed to both passengers and goods traffic in 1967. The goods yard remained until 1982.[1]
