Fiza Farhan

Fiza Farhan is a Pakistani social entrepreneur, business personality, activist and development expert analyst. She is the co-founder of Buksh Foundation and currently works as a Global Strategic Development advisor.[1] She is a member of the UN Secretary-General's panel on Women's Economic Empowerment.[2]

Farhan is known for creating awareness on energy conservation and female empowerment in Pakistan.[3] She is also known for empowering rural people in Pakistan by assisting them with microfinance and energy project schemes.[4]

Career

Farhan graduated from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and received her MBA from Warwick Business School in UK.

Farhan became an accomplished businesswoman in Pakistan at 28.[5] She co-founded a micro-finance institution, Buksh Foundation, in 2009, serving briefly as its CEO and as a director.[6] In 2013, she launched a project initiative, "Light a Million Lives", which focuses on spreading the use of safer eco-friendly solar lamps via a micro-financing scheme.[7]

Farhan served as chairperson to the Taskforce of the Chief Minister of Punjab briefly and was a member of the National Steering Committee on Climate Change.[8]

In 2014 she was selected as a Future Energy Leader at the World Energy Council. Farhan was one of the participants of UN Secretary General's first panel on Women Economic Empowerment.[9] She was appointed as a member on the panel by the UN.[10]

Farhan wrote a memoir, 52 Pearls of Life, which was published in 2016. The book details her thoughts and her success as an activist.[11]

She has received accolades for her work related to energy conservation and has featured in Forbes magazine's 30 Under 30 List of Social entrepreneurs in 2015, Forbes Asia List of 30 Under 30 Social entrepreneurs in 2016.[12] She was also the fourth Pakistani woman to be included in the Forbes elite list of young change makers.[13]
