Federica Carta (born 10 January 1999) is an Italian songwriter and TV personality.[1]

She ended up third in the sixteenth edition of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi in 2017.[2] Since that the singer has published three Top5 albums and several media successful singles and collaborations, solding over 325.000 copies in Italy.

Carta participated at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2019 with the song "Senza farlo apposta" together with rapper Shade, and worked as a songwriter with Elisa, Laura Pausini, Federica Abbate, Roberto Casalino and Alessandro Raina.[3][2]

Biography and music career

Federica Carta was born in Rome on January 10, 1999, from a family of Sardinian origin. At the age of nine she became passionate about music due to her father Cristiano and took singing and piano lessons.[4]

After having participated in some competitions, at the age of seventeen she decided to take part in the selection to enter the TV show Amici di Maria De Filippi, presenting for the first time on TV three of her unpublished songs, "Sogni e verità", "People talk to me" and "Tutto quello che ho".[5] As a member of the blue team, Federica finishes the program in third place.[6]

On May 19, 2017, she released her first studio album Federica, produced by Andrea Rigonat for the Universal Music Group. The album has many songwriters and composers as of the team coach Elisa, Federica Abbate and Roberto Casalino, and it reached the third position of the FIMI's chart and obtained the platinum certification.[7][8]  It contains songs presented to Amici: "Dopotutto" and "Ti vorrei dire", both certified gold records.[9][10] During the summer of 2017 she performed in several festivals and she collaborated on the hit "Irraggiungibile" with italian rapper Shade, reaching the second position of the Italian Singles Chart and selling over 150,000 copies.[11][11]

The singer tries to take part, together with the band she met at Amici, La Rua, at the Sanremo Music Festival 2018, being refused; the single, titled "Sull'orlo di una crisi d'amore", was released on March 23 of the same year.[12] In January 2018, Top Music, the television version of the official Top of the Music official record chart of the Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana, broadcast on Rai Gulp.[13] On February 1, 2018 "Molto più di un film" was released as the leading single from her second studio album Molto più di un film, published on April 23. The album hit the FIMI charts at fourth place.[7][14] On June 5, 2018 she published the book Mai così felice (Never so happy), in which the singer tells about herself amidst emotions, love and family, laying bare her soul.[15] Federica opened four concerts of Laura Pausini during summer.[16]

On December 14, 2018, the singer released her "Mondovisione" as the soundtrack of Paola Cortellesi's new film, La Befana vien di notte.[17] On December 21, 2018, was announced her participation at the Sanremo Music Festival 2019 with the song "Senza farlo apposta", with Shade.[18] The collaboration peaked at number five of Italian Singles Chart and get the platinum certification.[7] On February 15, 2019 her third studio album, Popcorn, was published. It debuted on third place on the FIMI's chart and became the singer's third consecutive album to reach into Top5.[19][20]

On March 6, 2020, Federica published "Bullshit", the first single from her fourth album that will be released in 2020 for Island Records.[21]

Artistry and music influences

The singer stated during interviews that her reference artist are Alicia Keys, Paolo Nutini, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish.[22] As musical influences she appreciates pop, neo soul, R&B and soul music.[22] The singer describes Laura Pausini and Elisa as main points in the contemporary Italian music scene.[23]
