Fatoumata Diabaté

Fatoumata Diabaté, (born on September 19 , 1980 in Bamako) is a Malian photographer.[1][2]

Biography

In 2002, after spending nine months at the Centre de Formation Audiovisuel Promo- Femmes training center in Bamako. She continued her studies at the Centre de Formation en Photographie de Bamako (CFP) which aims to professionalize Malian photographers. She was given a two-week internship there. Then after she was spotted for her motivation and her talent, she was retained and trained for two more years.[3][4] [5][6][7]

She then completed her training in Switzerland at the Vevey Professional Education Center, then returned to the CFP in Bamako where she became a technical assistant from 2007 to 2009. Her studies gave her the opportunity to improve her skills in black and white, silver photography and to participate in many workshops in Mali as well as abroad.[5][4][6][7]

She participated in several collective and individual exhibitions  and obtained several awards, notably the Africa Prize in creation of the French Association for artistic action (AFAA) obtained during the 2005 edition of the Afrique en Créations prize in Bamako for her work Tuaregs , in gestures and movements.[5][6][7][1]

Diabaté has also produced reports for World Press Photo, Oxfam and Rolex.[2]

Awards

  • 2011: Blachère Foundation prize for her work entitled The Animal in Man.[2]
  • 2005: "Africa in creation" prize from the French Association for Artistic Action (AFAA) for her project Touaregs, en gestes et en mouvements.[2]
