Route description

FM 1044 begins in central New Braunfels, at an intersection with the northbound frontage road of IH 35 at Exit #185. While it is generally north–south in direction,[2][3] it is signed as an east–west route. The route's eastern terminus is at FM 78 east of Marion.[1]

History

The original FM 1044 existed in Knox County. The original FM 1044 was designated on November 23, 1948, from US 82 1.5 miles west of the Knox-Baylor County Line southward 3 miles. On December 17, 1952, FM 1044 extended south 1.9 miles. On October 28, 1953, FM 1044 was cancelled and mileage was transferred to FM 266.[1]

The current FM 1044 designation was established on October 28, 1953, connecting US 81 (now the IH 35 freeway) to FM 78.[1]
