Fabiana Pierre-Louis

Fabiana Pierre-Louis is an American lawyer. On June 5, 2020, Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy announced his intention to nominate Pierre-Louis to the New Jersey Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Walter F. Timpone in November. If confirmed by the New Jersey Senate she would be the first Black woman to serve as justice. Her appointment would also make her the third woman on the seven-seat court as well as its youngest member.

Early life and education

Pierre-Louis was raised in Irvington, New Jersey.[1] She is the daughter of Haitian immigrants[1][2] and speaks Haitian Creole fluently.[3]

Pierre-Louis graduated from Union Catholic Regional High School in 1998.[4] She earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a juris doctor from Rutgers Law School.[1]

Career

Pierre-Louis served as a law clerk for New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John E. Wallace Jr.. Pierre-Louis worked for almost ten years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the office of United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, and served as the attorney-in-charge of the U.S. Attorney's Camden branch. After leaving that position she became a partner at the law firm of Montgomery McCracken.[5][3]

On June 5, 2020, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced his intention to nominate Pierre-Louis to the New Jersey Supreme Court[1][5] to replace Walter F. Timpone, who is retiring. If confirmed by the New Jersey Senate she would be the first Black women to serve on the court. Her appointment would also make her the third women on the seven-seat court as well as its youngest member.[6]

Personal life

Pierre-Louis and husband, Robert Reeves, have two sons.[2][7] As of 2020, the family resides in Mount Laurel.[8][7]
