Esco develops, produces and sells products used in academic, medical and industrial research laboratories, e.g. in companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and food industries. They are also used in industrial laboratories where industrial process analysis, production and quality assurance are performed. The company is the world's market leader in innovating and providing laboratory biological safety equipment.

Products

Esco develops, produces and sells devices, consumables and services for laboratories. They include biological safety cabinets, CO2 incubators, ultra-low temperature freezers, fume hoods, centrifuges as well as pharmaceutical isolators. In addition, Esco manufactures bench-top embryo incubator and IVF work station specifically tailored to the in-vitro fertilization labs.

History

Esco started in 1978 when founder Lim Lay Yew saw a need for a regional player that can serve the then booming electronics manufacturing industry in Singapore. Mr. Lim used his extensive knowledge of cleanroom construction and certification to win over many contracts of international players in the then third-world Singapore.

In 2000, the company's focus has shifted from cleanroom design and construction to development and sales of laboratory equipment, in particular biological safety equipment, in responding to Asia's general lack of awareness and compliance in operator protection and product protection in biological safety labs. Esco has held thousands of seminars regionally to educate lab technicians on biosafety in the labs throughout the years, in an effort to enhance the level of awareness among the researchers and medical professionals. In particular, Esco has assisted the Chinese FDA in writing the industry standard for biological safety cabinets for China.

Under the leadership of group CEO XQ (Xiangqian) Lin, who joined the company at the age of 13 and served a key role in building the brand in life sciences industry,[1] Esco has expanded to medical devices industry and pharmaceutical equipment industry as well as started an investment arm, Esco Ventures.[1] Esco Ventures aims to give back to the society by mentoring and financially aiding regional startups serving similar industries. In recognition of Esco's contribution, Esco has won Singapore Prestige Brand Awards (SPBA) Regional Brand consecutively in 2014, 2015, and 2016.[2][3]

In 2016, Esco sponsored Embryoplus in South Africa a Miri bench-top incubator to aid efforts in conservation of species that are in the brink of extinction.
