Ernest Truman

Ernest Edwin Philip Truman (1869-1948) was born in Hunters Hill, Sydney [1] and lived for a time in New Zealand. He was a composer of light romantic era classical music. Truman attended Leipzig Conservatory along with countryman Alfred Hill [2] Ensemble pieces still performed at festivals and music schools, regarded as exemplary [3] He was the most competitive organist in New South Wales when appointed Sydney city organist [4] in which role he held at least a hundred recitals. [5] Some of his works, such as In The Woods of Dandenong were influential in being early examples of an impressionist school of Australian music.
