Erika H. James

Erika H. James is an American academic and businesswoman. She is scheduled to become dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, on July 1, 2020.

Education

James received her undergraduate degree from Pomona College and earned her MA and PhD in organizational psychology from the University of Michigan.[1]

Career

Following graduation, James became an assistant professor at Tulane University's Freeman School of Business and a visiting professor at Harvard Business School.[1][2]

In 2015, James was named the John H. Harland Dean of Emory University's Goizueta Business School [3].[4] Prior to Emory University, she served as senior associate dean for executive education at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.[4] At Darden, she introduced the Women's Leadership Program, and was the first associate dean of diversity.[1][2]

In February 2020, James was named as the dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, effective July 1, 2020,[5] where she will become both the first woman and the first African-American to lead the business school.[6]

James is known for her crisis leadership and workplace diversity research.[1]
