Elmer Smith Power Plant

The Elmer Smith Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant owned and operated by the city of Owensboro, Kentucky. It opened in 1964.

History

It was announced in June 2018 that Elmer Smith will close by June 2020. This is due to Owensboro Municipal Utility Commission approving a contract with Big Rivers Electric to supply electricity for Owensboro.[2]
