Dubai International Rally

The Dubai International Rally is an international rally racing event based in Dubai but held in Sharjah[1] in the United Arab Emirates close to the border with Oman. The rally, a gravel and sand event, dates back to 1984 and has long been final event of the Middle East Rally Championship each year and is one of two events (along with Qatar International Rally to have been held in every year of the MERC. The rally changed its name to the Emirates Rally in 1989 but changed back the following year.

The rally has been dominated by Emirati driver Mohammed bin Sulayem who has claimed 15 victories including twelve consecutive wins from 1991-2002. Eight wins have been taken by Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah, including a run of six straight from 2007-12 while Emirati driver Khalid Al-Qassimi has won twice.
