Donald Hector

Donald Hector AM is an Australian chemical engineer and company director. He was managing director of Dow Corning Australia and from 2012 to 2015 was President of the Royal Society of New South Wales.[1][2][3] He has a degree in chemical engineering and a PhD in engineering from the University of Sydney.

From 2001 until 2013, Hector was a lay Synod appointment of the Uniting Church in Australia to the Council of Newington College where he was a former student.[4] He was on the Engineering Faculty advisory board at the University of Sydney from its formation in 2004 until 2012 and is the current President of the Chemistry Foundation at Sydney University. From 2012, he served four years as President of the Royal Society of New South Wales, the oldest learned institution in the Southern Hemisphere, having been editor of its peer-reviewed journal in 2010 and 2011.[5]

Honours

  • 2017: Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to science in the field of chemical engineering, and to business.[6]
