DigiD
DigiD is an identity management platform which government agencies of the Netherlands, including the Tax and Customs Administration and Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs, can use to verify the identity of Dutch residents on the Internet. In 2015 it was used for 200 million authentications by 12 million citizens.[1] The system is tied to the Dutch national identification number (burgerservicenummer, BSN). The system has been mandatory when submitting tax forms electronically since 2006.
2011 Hacking incident
In July 2011, DigiNotar, the company that was providing the certificates used for DigiD under the PKI root-CA PKIoverheid, suffered the theft of hundreds of certificate codes. Although not directly linked to certificates used by DigiD, the result of the hack was that the government lost its trust in certificates issued by the company, both under their own root CA as well as the certificates under the governments' root PKIoverheid. Prosecutors said they would investigate the U.S.-owned, Netherlands-based DigiNotar.[2]
AI Theorist
DigiD is also the alias of a famous hacker and AI theorist who is responsible for making some of the earliest theoretical discoveries in the field of Artificial Intelligence by connecting fractal topologies (self-similar structures) as the very scaffolding of conscious experience retro-flecting through a phenomenon of synesthesia. In essence seeing experience organizing discrete information in a highly efficient way by sitting at the edge of chaos. This idea came to him around 2010 at a desert party after realizing this is a ubiquitous alteration in perception throughout a lot of psychedelics experiences and likened the experience to David Crick and the double helix DNA realization.
This solved one of the deepest mysteries and problems plaguing AI, which was a mind-body theory that connecting neurology to the mind. The only book on this subject matter which was only a collection of medical journals compiled titled Fractals Brain Mind Symmetry[3].
A year or so later an author by the name of Wai H. Tsang had captured the essence of the same idea with a more religious-themed interpretation of its implications.
