Dean Dalla Valle

Dean Dalla Valle was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, and is currently CEO (appointed July 2017), of Pacific National, a private Australian rail freight business.[1]

Dalla Valle began his mining career at BHP in underground coal mining in the Illawarra region of New South Wales as a 17 year old electrical apprentice.[2] After twenty years in coal he moved to the Pilbara in Western Australia where he was Vice President of Ports for West Australian Iron Ore (WAIO).[3] Other positions Dalla Valle held at BHP included Asset President of Cannington in Queensland, Asset President of Olympic Dam in South Australia and President of the global Coal division based in Brisbane.[4] Dalla Valla was Chief Commercial Officer and spent his last year in Brazil dealing with the Samarco Dam failure. Fittingly a shaft at the Jansen project was named after him.[5]
