de Beaumont-Spain baronets

The de Beaumont-Spain Baronetcy, of Willingale in the County of Essex, England, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1723 for Henry de Beaumont,[1] with remainder, failing heirs male of his own, to the heirs male of his father.

History

Henry de Beaumont was the nephew of the famous naval captain Basil Beaumont, youngest son of Henry Beaumont, 2nd Baronet of Stoughton Grange. He was succeeded by his brother, the second Baronet. The third Baronet took on the surname de Beaumont-Spain in reference to his early ancestors who lived at Spains Hall and also to his own family seat at Spains Hall in Willingale. The surname has been used in the different forms of de Beaumont, Beaumont, de Beaumont-Spain, and Spain throughout the history of the baronetcy [2].

The sixth Baronet was a man of letters and polymath who studied at Brasenose College, Oxford. The de Beaumont-Spain family do not use their seat in Willingale as their permanent home after the ninth Baronet pursued a career in local politics further north during the 20th century, using Spains Hall as a getaway. As of 2017, the baronetcy is held by the eleventh baronet, who succeeded in 2013.
