Dalserf railway station

Dalserf (NS 78111 50938) was a railway station on the Caledonian Railway line from Brocketsbrae to Ferniegair (Merryton Junction) serving the village of Dalserf in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It opened as Ayr Road in 1866 and was closed from January 1941 to May 1945[1] and closed permanently in 1951.[2]

History

The route

The original double track route to Coalburn via Tillietudlem was replaced by a new alignment through Blackwood. A line also ran to Stonehouse, Canderside and Swinehill. Stonehouse and Coalburn stations closed on 4 October 1965.[3][4] Dalserf Junction, Cornsilloch Colliery and brick works were located nearby.[5]

The station

The station had substantial passenger buildings, two platforms with an overbridge, several sidings, and goods sheds. The signal box was near the junction.[6]
