Crayford Manor House Astronomical Society

Crayford Manor House Astronomical Society is a local astronomy group once based in the historic Crayford Manor House, but since 2012 in Sutton-at-Hone, Kent. It was established in 1961. The new location boasts an observatory called the 'Dick Chambers Sutton-at-Hone Observatory', housing a 16 inch telescope. They meet weekly for observing sessions as well as lectures and other activities.[1]

The Parsonage Lane Pavilion, Parsonage Lane, Sutton-at-Hone, Dartford, Kent, DA4 9HD The addition of Dartford to the name reflects the change of address from the Manor House in Crayford. The new home boasts the darkest skies in the area and a new observatory called the 'Dick Chambers Sutton-at-Hone Observatory', housing a 16 inch telescope.

Car parking

Space for about 50 cars plus some on road parking.

Events

Every Thursday of the year at 7:45 pm - except Christmas week.

In term time there are lectures from visiting professors & professional scientists. There are also 'Society Nights' where society members show their latest activities. They also meet for local observing sessions at some weekends too - weather permitting. As a group they attend many astronomical events such as Astrofest, BAA Winchester Weekend & the Kelling Heath Star Party both in the Spring and Autumn.

Publications

Members of the society have published many papers,[2] including papers in the following journals... Journal British Astronomical Association, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Astronomy Now, Sky and Telescope, Practical Astronomy, Observatory & IBVS.
