Conrad Schirokauer

Conrad Schirokauer, was an American historian and writer. (1929 in Leipzig, Germany – 19 September 2018, Cleveland, Ohio) His family left Germany via Italy to settle in Tennessee in 1938 before eventually moving to Baltimore, MD.

His father was the German-Jewish literary scholar and philologist Arno Schirokauer.

Conrad Schirokauer was married to Lore Strich who he had met originally as a child in Italy.

Schirokauer obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on 12th century Chinese political thought at Stanford University.

He specialized in East Asian historiography, particularly Chinese and Japanese history.

Schirokauer graduated high school from Williston Academy.[2] He completed his BA in history at Yale, and his PhD in history at Stanford.[3] with a dissertation on 12th century Chinese political thought.

He was a professor of history at the City University of New York.[3]
