History

Concord Mall opened in August 1972, anchored by Montgomery Ward and Robertson's, a division of Gamble-Skogmo.[2] J. C. Penney was added as a third anchor in 1976.[3] Robertson's closed and the space was eventually occupied by Meis and then Elder-Beerman, which was re-branded as Carson's in 2011.[4] After Montgomery Ward closed, its building was split between Hobby Lobby (which opened in 2002)[5][6] and ABC Warehouse. In 2008, a space vacated by Osco Drug was renovated into a food court.[7] On January 31, 2018 Carson's Parent company Bon-Ton announced they would be closing the Concord Mall location with 42 other stores.[8] Carson's Closed in 2018. On June 4, 2020, it was announced that JCPenney will be closing around October 2020 as part of a plan to close 154 stores nationwide. After JCPenney closes, Hobby Lobby and Martin's Supermarkets will be the only anchor stores left.
