Community Justice Scotland

Community Justice Scotland is a national body which is responsible for reducing reoffending. It launched in April 2017.

Background

Established in April 2017 by the Community Justice (Scotland) Act 2016, Community Justice Scotland replaced eight community justice authorities that were set up under the Management of Offenders etc (Scotland) Act 2005.<ref>Robertson, Alan (12 February 2016). Community Justice Scotland is responsible for promoting world-leading standards of community justice across Scotland. They provide training, support and leadership and identify expertise, promote innovation and drive change. Their aim is for a smarter, more effective justice system and their ambition is to reduce victims of crime, reduce offending and improve the lives of everyone.

Karyn McCluskey, former Director of the Violence Reduction Unit, was named Chief Executive in September 2016. Lindsay Montgomery, CBE is the current Chair.
