Commissioner of Karachi

The Commissioner of Karachi of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan is a position created by Government of Sindh to replace City District Government of Karachi.[1] In 2011, the Government of Sindh reintroduced the local governments in Karachi and Hyderabad.[2]

This posting is given to a Senior Officer in the Pakistan Administrative Services usually of the elite rank of BS-21 (Grade 21). Commissioner Karachi Division is considered to be one of the most senior positions in the Government of Sindh, and the strongest Commissioner in Pakistan, as the largest city of Pakistan, Karachi comes under the respected Karachi Division.

The current Commissioner of Karachi is Mr. Iftikhar Ali Shallwani an Officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service. He is currently at the elite rank of BS-21/ Grade 21.[3]
