Colin Basran

Colin G. Basran (born November 14, 1977) is a Canadian politician, currently the mayor of Kelowna, British Columbia.[1] He won election in the 2014 municipal election, over former mayor Sharon Shepherd.[1]

Basran graduated from the Broadcast Journalism program at BCIT and worked as a television journalist for CHBC-TV from 2002 to 2007,[2] before leaving the station to go into business as a realtor.[2] He was first elected to Kelowna City Council as a city councillor in the 2011 municipal election.[2]

Of Sikh descent,[3] he is both the youngest and the first non-Caucasian person ever elected mayor of Kelowna.[1]
