Civic Democratic Forum

The Civic Democratic Forum (Serbian: Грађански демократски форум / Građanski Demokratski forum, Serbian abbreviation: ГДФ / GDF) is a social-liberal non-parliamentary political party in Serbia. It was founded in 2019 by former members of Movement of Free Citizens. It has no representatives in the National Assembly, since it was founded after the last parliamentary elections in Serbia.[1] It has positioned itself as an opposition to government led by Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). However, GDF often criticizes other opposition parties.

History

When Saša Janković resigned as President of Movement of Free Citizens, candidates for his successor were actor Sergej Trifunović and Aleksandar Olenik. The interim president was Rade Veljanovski. When Trifunović won with 60% of the vote, Veljanovski, Olenik, and several other members left the movement. On 2 March 2019, they formed Civic Democratic Forum.

In April they formed signed an cooperation agreement with Party of Modern Serbia.[2] Together they issued a statement in which they present a solution for Kosovo. Their stance is that Serbia should exchange territories with Kosovo and recognize its independence.[3]

On 5 February 2020 GDF, Party of Modern Serbia and League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina formed European block.[4] European block together with newly formed organisation Serbia 21 (former members of SDS, LDP and DS) will participate in 2020 Serbian parliamentary election in a pro-european coalition United Democratic Serbia.
