The National Coalition Party and the Swedish People's Party have been in a local alliance since the municipal election of 2008.[4] Since the latest election in 2017 the biggest party has been the Social Democratic Party winning 16 seats. The independent representatives come from two local lists: Tampereen puolesta (lit. For Tampere), which has 3 seats, and Vaihtoehto Tampere (Alternative Tampere) with 1 seat.[5].
