Chinna Mapillai

Chinna Mapillai (English: Younger Son-in-law) is a 1993 Indian Tamil-language film starring Prabhu and Sukanya in lead roles. The film was a commercial success upon release in January 1993. It was remade in Telugu as Chinna Alludu (1993), in Hindi as Coolie No.1 (1995) and in Kannada as Coolie Raja (1999).

Plot

Thangavel (Prabhu) is a kindhearted poor man who works as a coolie in a bus stand. Ambalavanan (Visu), a marriage broker wants him to pose as a rich man from Singapore and marry Janaki (Sukanya) to break the arrogance and her money-minded father Periya Pannai (Radha Ravi). Periya Pannai finds out that he is a coolie, but Thangavel brilliantly lies that it is his younger brother. How Thangavel reforms both of them forms the story.

Reception

The Indian Express wrote "Chinna Maappille is a hilarious, racy comedy of the Wodehousian sort with engaging situations well directed by Santhana Bharathi".[2]

Remake

The film was remade in Hindi as Coolie No. 1 in 1995.[3]
