History

The CERIS "Centre d'Etudes des Relations Internationales & Stratégiques" was established in 1985 upon the initiative of a group of university professors, diplomats and senior civil servants. Its objective was to promote research and post graduate executive education in the field of Politics, International Relations and Development Policy. In 2000 CERIS became "Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales & Stratgégiques". In 2018 CERIS & ULB "Université Libre de Bruxelles" have concluded a privileged partnership and transformed CERIS into an International Centre called "CERIS-ULB Diplomatic School of Brussels" dedicated to postgraduate training in the fields of International Relations, Development Policy and Diplomacy. The agreement provides for the common issuance of recognized CERIS-ULB certificates.

Advanced in-service Education for Professionals

CERIS is a postgraduate school that provides Executive masters, designed for professionals. In 1988, CERIS launched its Executive Master in International Politics (MAIP), designed specifically for diplomats, international civil servants, corporate executives and journalists. Twenty years later, in 2008, CERIS introduced its Executive Master in Governance and Development Policy (MADEV); Over the years, the programs have been completed by tailor-made intensive courses devoted to issues such as the external action of the EU, public diplomacy, conflict management, peacekeeping & security studies, Strategic Negotiation, Strategic Negotiating with Chinese, Strategic Crisis Management, Strategic Communication.

Global Reach and Influence

CERIS or the "CERIS-ULB Diplomatic School of Brussels" is an English-language international school based in the Brussels-Capital Region. Our education is a non-subsidized private education. Our teaching is geared towards globalization. Indeed, it is dispensed on 4 continents in more than 30 countries around the world. The rate of integration in the fields of international relations conferred by our certificates is very high. Our school and our certificates enjoy a high reputation. Most of our teachers come from the top 10 of the best universities in the world. Major international institutions finance the training of their staff in our center and promotions within some of them are obtained on the basis of our certificates Level 7 EQF / European Qualification Framework (European Union Certificate Framework). In addition to the privileged partnership with the "Université Libre de Bruxelles" - ULB, CERIS has developed partnerships with universities such as the "Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies" of Geneva, International Institutions such as the "Inter-University Council for East Africa" and research centers such as the "Center d'Etudes des Crises et des Conflits Internationaux - CECRI". Our teaching is largely focused on the Anglo-Saxon, Commonwealth, Asia-Pacific countries as well as on the Americas or Africa, and is aimed mostly at English-speaking participants.

The Certificates

The Executive Masters 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfert & Accumulation System) are issued by CERIS & the Université libre de Bruxelles - ULB and are agreed by ARES (Académie de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur) which is the federation of "Wallonia-Brussels Federation" higher education institutions in Belgium. The jury of the Executive Master program delivers a Certificate Level 7 EQF (European Qualification Framework).

EQF Level 7 Knowledge : Highly specialised knowledge, some of which is at the forefront of knowledge in a field of work or study, as the basis for original thinking and/or research. Critical awareness of knowledge issues in a field and at the interface between different fields.

EQF Level 7 Skills : specialised problem-solving skills required in research and/or innovation in order to develop new knowledge and procedures and to integrate knowledge from different fields.

EQF Level 7 Responsibility and autonomy : manage and transform work or study contexts that are complex, unpredictable and require new strategic approaches; take responsibility for contributing to professional knowledge and practice and/or for reviewing the strategic performance of team.
