Carlos García Cuervo

Carlos Manuel García Cuervo (born 24 September 1946) is a Spanish retired footballer [1] and manager.[2]

Football career

His beginnings as a player took place in neighborhood teams from Gijón, such as the Cultural de La Calzada, La Braña Club de Fútbol or the La Camocha club, before joining Sporting Gijón in the 1965-66 campaign, when the Atletico team played in Second Division . He remained on the squad for seven seasons, although he enjoyed few opportunities since the arrival of goalkeeper Jesús Castro in 1968.[3] Still, he experienced a promotion to the First Division in the 1969-70 campaign and came to debut in the top flight on 27 September 1970 against Elche CF[4]

In 1972 his transfer to Burgos CF was completed, a team with which he played thirteen games and garnered a relegation to the Second Division in the 1972–73 season . After another campaign in the silver category, in which he played twelve games and Burgos achieved permanence after defeating SD Eibar in promotion, he made his way into the ranks of the CE Sabadell FC .There he only had a presence in five games during the 1974–75 season and the team was relegated to the Third Division . In 1975 signed for Real Jaen CF, with which obtained up to the second division after winning group 4 of the third category. A year later he repeated success with the Xerez CD, although this time he promoted the newly created Second Division B .In which he played during the 1977–78 season before ending his sports career.[5]

Coaching career

In season 1984-85 led in Third Division to the CD San Martin, team with which he played the phase of ascent to Second Division B in which defeated by the Real Burgos CF [6] In the season 1986 -87 got promotion to Second Division B with Caudal Deportivo after leading the team to first place in Group 2 of Third Division.[7] In 1987 he became the manager of Sporting de Gijón Atlético, With which he achieved a new promotion to Second Division B in the 1988-89 campaign after winning his second Third Division championship.

On October 10, 1989, he took over the bench from Real Sporting de Gijón to replace the dismissed Jesús Aranguren . At the end of the 1989–90 season his continuity at the helm of the rojiblanco team was confirmed for one more campaign, but on November 27, 1990 he was dismissed after chaining a series of bad results. In December 1992, he reached an agreement to direct Real Avilés Industrial CF in Second Division B. However, on April 16, 1993, he returned to Sporting to relieveBert Jacobs as coach

From the 1993–94 season, he combined the position of Sporting's technical secretary with the direction of the Mareo Football School . 25 On March 9, 1995, he began his third stage as a sportinguista coach after the dismissal of Mariano García Remón, although he did not finish the campaign and was replaced by Ricardo Rezza in June, days before. to dispute the promotion before the EU Lleida .
